I am a Pakistani national and planning to apply for Tier 4 (General) student visa so that I can study in the United Kingdom (UK). I have been accepted to study full time in a College that is located in Manchester for a study program of 12 months duration. According to the college, it is a licensed Tier 4 sponsor. After paying the course fee, I have £9,200 in my bank account to use during my stay in the UK as student. I have overall 6.5 band in IELTS (academic) test result. How do I calculate my points for UK Tier 4 student visa to assess my eligibility?
Tier 4(General) student visa is a point based immigration system for those who want to migrate to the UK for study. The prospect international students must score 40 points in order to qualify to apply for Tier 4 student visa.
The factors used to calculate points are confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS) by approved Tier 4 sponsor, English skills and maintenance (funds).
1. confirmation of acceptance for studies:
30 points for having a valid confirmation of acceptance for studies, which you get for studying a course at an acceptable level with an approved education provider (also known as a ‘Tier 4 sponsor’), and for having acceptable English language skills.
2. Maintenance (Funds):
10 points for having enough money (also known as maintenance or funds) to cover your course fees and living costs.
You will receive 30 points for confirmation of acceptance for studies from the licensed Tier 4 sponsor and acceptable English language skills.
Your college is located in Manchester which is outside the London area. You require a minimum of £7,200 to cover your living cost during the first year of studies in the UK in addition to the course fee. You have £9,200 after paying the course fee which is more than the minimum requirement for maintenance money. You will receive 10 points for this factor.
Your total score is 40 which is required to qualify for Tier 4 (General) student visa. However, it does not guarantee that you will receive the student visa to enter the UK as the decision is based on other factors as well.
